Asus Promises "Extreme Overclocking" with New EAH5000 Series Graphics Cards

Asus today launched a pair of Radeon HD 5000 series videocards -- EAH5870 and EAH5850 -- the company claims will accommodate extreme levels of overclocking thanks to an "innovative thermal design." Both cards come equipped with specially-flattened copper heatpipes Asus says helps dissipate heat up to 20 percent better while playing games, while also offering up to 35 percent quieter operation when idle. Similar to what was so successful in Cooler Master's Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler (see review here ), Asus looks to have gone with a direct contact solution, squashing the 5.8-ounce heatpipes at the base. Apple iTunes Store Records 10 Billionth Download, Gives Away $10,000 Gift Card

Apple on Thursday announced that more than 10 billion songs have been purchased and downloaded from the company's iTunes Store. "We're grateful to all of our customers for helping us reach this amazing milestone," said Eddy Cue, Apple's vice president of Internet Services. "We're proud that iTunes has become the number one music retailer in the world, and selling 10 billion songs is truly staggering." Louie Sulcer, a 71-year-old from Woodstock, Georgia, made the 10 billionth purchase when he bought Johnny Cash's "Guess Things Happen That Way." As a result for his good timing (and good taste in music), Sulcer will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card. [......]

MSI Ships Newest Intel Arrandale Equipped PCs: "Classic Series"

MSI this week beefed up its "Classic Series" notebook line with a trio of new 15.6-inch models built around Intel's Arrandale platform, and one 16-inch model with Nvidia graphics. The CR620-030US and CR620-033US -- both 15.6 units -- sport a Core i3-330M processor and a 320GB hard drive, while the former also comes with a DVD burner and the latter a Blu-ray reader. Novatel’s MiFi "Gadget of the Year" Gets 4G Upgrade

Novatel is ready to ride the WiMAX wave and has announced that it has successfully completed over the air testing of its new MiFi Intelligent Mobile Hotspot prototype based on 4G WiMAX. "Novatel Wireless is pleased to support the growing 4G ecosystem and the evolution of next-generation communications with this milestone WiMAX call," said Rob Hadley , CMO, Novatel Wireless. "The combination of our intelligent software platform on MiFi with 4G speeds from Beceem's high-performance 4G-WiMAX chips will open up new opportunities for the growing number of initiatives involving 4G mobile broadband applications and services."
