Facebook, Yahoo will end litigation in "patent peace deal"
The blockbuster patent lawsuit between Facebook and Yahoo is reportedly about to come to an end. Kara Swisher of AllThingsD just reported that a “patent peace deal” and partnership expansion has been approved by the boards of both companies and will be announced today.
In what seemed like a desperate move, Yahoo sued Facebook in March claiming infringement of ten patents, and saying “Facebook’s entire social network model … is based on Yahoo!’s patented social networking technology.” Facebook quickly fought back with a counterclaim accusing Yahoo of infringing ten patents of its own, most of which Facebook had acquired from other companies and sources.
No filings have been made in the case since June 20, as the sides have apparently been busy negotiating a settlement. The companies were partners prior to the patent lawsuit, and the deal will make them friends again while expanding that partnership.
